What is Lyon?

Lyon is a community-driven music project built around three things:

• 🔍 Preserving and reverse-engineering Kygo's signature sound from Cloud Nine (2016) and earlier, with as much accuracy as possible (as if we had access to his computer).
• 🎵 Documenting and archiving the forgotten context and culture that made it possible in the first place (even beyond Kygo).
• 🎧 Reviving and extending that sound and context in the modern day.

The project is intentionally designed not to be explicitly anti-anything. The era we’re documenting speaks for itself in a way no “older was better” or “he sold out” essay ever could.

Why was this project made?

In 2015, Kygo’s childhood friend, Mads Songve, made a SoundCloud profile named Lille where he uploaded two remixes, which were eerily shared a lot of signature sounds from Kygo’s productions at the time.

Lyon had originally started in September 2019 as a secret team project designed to be a successor to Lille (hence the name) and Kygo’s older remixes in general. However, it only lived for a couple of months before it was practically abandoned.

More than 6 years later, as Cloud Nine has reached 10 years since its release, it was about time that era of music got the attention it deserved today, and the Lyon project couldn’t be more fitting for that mission.

Who is this project for?

The project originally started out with Kygo-oriented music producers in mind, mainly for remake projects. However, the project goes far beyond that.
